Out of context

As a middle aged man living in 21st century I am prone to make certain assumptions. I am assume that everyone has had at least similar contact with American history that I have had. So when the so called Reverend Jeremiah Wright is spouting his rhetoric that most people know that he is mostly full of crap. Right? A few of his assertions I suppose are at least arguable. But the one thing he says is that disturbs me is his reference to 9/11:

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Wright said. "We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."

That quote simply does not make sense. Rev. Wright does know that the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki took place during World War 2 doesn't he? How does he relate an act of war with a terrorist attack? Now I'm the first to admit that the U.S. is far from from innocent, and has more than a little blood on her hands. But what we did in World War 2? We were the good guys. Weren't we?
